Towards the end of my pregnancy, I had to go to the OB weekly for routine visits. At one of my visits there was a pregnant lady who had past-due bills that were piling up, as her insurance didn’t cover all her necessary medical visits.
It was 2023, just 3 months before the holiday season, and times were tough for everyone. I overheard the front desk explaining to her that they were going to need payment at her next visit. After she left I spoke with the office and told them I would like to pay it forward and use $100 to take off some of her debt. This was an anonymous donation, but going through the journey of motherhood myself, I can only imagine the gratitude I would feel in this situation. Growing a child is not for the faint of heart, and the stress inevitably builds.
This made me feel at peace. I was grateful to be able to do this for another momma in need. Pregnancy is a stressful time regardless of your financial situation. You’re trying to do what’s best for you and your baby, and there are so many expenses with having a child as is! I couldn’t imagine starting off that experience in debt. My husband and I are fortunate enough to have great health insurance and the means to provide for our child without worry. Paying it forward seemed like a no brainer.
